The soul. It’s this “thing” that’s not a thing at all. And it’s called many, many names that make it personal and meaningful to the human that the being-ness of you resides in.
I don’t claim to be able to explain to you what a soul is exactly. But, I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t have my own ideas of course. And if you’ve been with me for a while, in a literary sense, you know that in my line of work the soul has everything to do with career bliss.
Human beings throughout history and across cultures have countless synonyms for the word “soul” that all point in the direction of something just beyond the description of our human experience. We can’t fully know from an individual human perspective what the grand ecology of life is really all about.
We can’t know it all, but we are a part of it all.
God, Good, Light, Higher Self, the Force, Essence, Universe, Chi, Prana, Energy, Creator … In the classroom I used to fill an entire board with words that people would call out as we brain-stormed. Words to describe this mystical, magical, mysterious part of life that plays out in how we humans behave in our day-to-day existence. We all have a relationship to what we perceive as “no(thing).”
One could say then that your soul is the part of you that experiences experience.
But here’s something to consider: The existence of the very notion of a soul means life is for a reason. Your reason. And to that end, your deepest reason is what I call your soul story.
A soul story is a tool, a touchstone, an anchor, and the pulse of your life; two words that both describe and point in the direction of your north star.
So how do you know what your soul story is? And how can you possibly get a glimpse of it to help you feel at home in the world? Naming your soul story is acknowledgment that you’ve got an innate compass in your being that’s trying to reach you from the inside in a world that is otherwise oriented to the outside. Guiding your every career bliss step.
If you want to know what your soul story is, I can help with that. You can download this guided exercise that I curated and made for you. As a gift.
